Just discovered the journalPhysics Special Topics, a journal for year 4 (MPhys) students in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester. It is full of hilarious short papers very much in the style of XKCD's what if?.
Vol 11, No 1 (2012) for example investigates whether electromagnets can get trucks to fall over a la Breaking Bad, the heat emissions of the House of Commons, how bug solar satellite is needed to melt an ice palace like Die another day, how high falls haystacks can stop, what intensity of sunshine is needed to enable walking on it, and how to drain the Mediterranean with a siphon. Most enjoyable.
