What the score is
A weighted count of ledger rows, not a measurement of resilience. Each row contributes ±1 (resilient / vulnerable; mixed contributes 0), scaled by your theme weights and by your credence on author inference. Nothing here is calibrated against outcomes.
The attention confound
Countries appear in this ledger because researchers wrote about them. Australia leads partly because it is the country most often mentioned in the corpus. Balance mode divides the net score by the total evidence mass, which strips out volume and asks only: of what has been said about this place, how much was favourable? It is a different and equally partial question.
Grey is not zero
Countries with no fill carry no evidence in the corpus at all. Absence of evidence here is overwhelmingly an absence of literature, not a finding. Roughly 150 countries are in that state.
Themes are not the authors'
The eight factor themes are a post-hoc tagging of each row's free-text factor description, added for this explorer so the weights have something to act on. They are not part of the published ledger and the authors did not review them. Rows carrying several themes split their weight equally between them.
Regional rows
Some ledger rows name regions rather than countries. With attribution on, these are expanded onto member countries using the mapping in the authors' own code; the affected countries are marked. Regions with no constituent country in the ledger — Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Baltics, and the two climatic zones — are listed under the matrix rather than silently dropped.
